Wings for All
![]()
Many people with autism and other intellectual & developmental disabilities and their families have tried unsuccessfully—or have not had the confidence—to travel by air. The sights, sounds, and movement of thousands of people in a busy airport can be overwhelming. Wings for All™, a national initiative of The Arc, gives participants a full airport rehearsal so they know what to expect before travel day.
Co-hosted by The Arc of Union/Cabarrus, Delta Air Lines, and Charlotte Douglas International Airport, and in partnership with the Transportation Security Administration, Wings for All™ is typically held each April in honor of Autism Awareness Month. The exact date and registration window are announced on our website and social media.
What families tell us
Parents often say the rehearsal removed the “unknown” that kept them from booking flights. Self-advocates report feeling proud when they complete security and boarding steps on their own. Airline and TSA personnel also gain valuable practice supporting travelers with sensory and communication differences.
How to register
Space is limited to keep the environment calm and manageable. When registration opens, you will be able to sign up through instructions posted by The Arc of Union/Cabarrus. If you would like to be notified for the next Charlotte-area event, call 704.261.1550 or contact us with your name and email.
Volunteers welcome
Community volunteers help guide participants through the terminal. If you are interested in volunteering at a future Wings for All™, visit Volunteer or speak with our staff.
